This stylish cocktail bar and lounge housed in a, um, former gentlemen's club serves up a clever cocktail menu that riffs on the classics. Trace the roots of a standby like the Old Fashioned; ask one of the knowledgeable—yet still approachable—bartenders to tell you the story behind the original (invented at a nearby private club, legend says), then try one of their modern spins on it. Or explore the Boulevardier capped off with their Bug Juice. In town midweek? Drop by for Wu-Tang Wednesday. Every weekday features “aper-hour” with wallet-friendly aperitifs. DJs spin on the weekend, and anytime you go you may well find the owner Jeremy Johnson doing something crazy. He achieved notoriety—and won the internet—when he served up (and sold out of) Pappy Van Winkle bourbon Jell-O shots.

Meta is a really great bartender-owned bar. Jeremy Johnson is not afraid to spit in the eyes of people and do his own thing and I really respect that. It's tough to own a place and stand behind your drinks and do something creative that people aren’t necessarily going to embrace. As for my favorite drink there, I ask Jeremy or the co-owner Hannah what they’re excited about at the time. I put the choice in their hands.
