Connetquot River State Park

3525 West Sunrise Highway, Oakdale, NY, 11769

You’ll need more than one visit to fully explore the 3,473 acres spread across both land and water that is Connetquot River State Park. Miles of hiking trails, horseback riding routes, and permitted fishing areas make this a favorite for outdoor lovers. The large preserve is also home to a variety of animals and plant life, including the rare osprey and pink lady slipper.

We have the Empire Pass (highly recommended if you live in New York and visit a lot of state parks!) and we often use it on Long Island. The park that stands out for me is Connetquot. I love nature, and this park is special because it's also a preserve, which means there's no picnicking or camping within its bounds. This might seem like a detriment, but in this case, the park is kept truly pristine. Streams crisscross many of the trails and the water comes from underground streams. It's crystal clear and absolutely beautiful. At the entrance to the park are several old buildings that are beautiful to see, including an old grist mill that is being restored.
