Centro & Gallo Pelón Mezcaleria

106 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC, 27601

Everything about Centro is bright, from the swinging Día de los Muertos decorations to the flavorful food. Traditional Mexican dishes like tamales and mole poblano are joined by contemporary updates—fried chicken tacos!—on the menu, but the food’s just the beginning. The real fun happens when you head upstairs to Gallo Pelon, the mescal bar operated by the owners of Centro. Sip mezcal flights and smoky cocktails on the patio under twinkling lights through the night and return to nurse your hangover with brunch and Bloody Marias the next morning.

Centro has long been a fun and friendly dining spot for Raleigh’s creative community, and it’s great to see how this same community really rallied to crowdfund Angela’s latest venture—a mezcaleria called Gallo Pelón above the restaurant. You can’t go wrong with the classic carnitas and a smoky mezcal cocktail.
