Description

Formerly the Duke University Museum of Art, this renovated and redesigned institute opened in 2005 with a new name and building designed by Rafael Viñoly. Since then, the museum has been organizing and presenting innovative exhibitions that travel to institutions worldwide. The permanent collection is continuously growing to include work from some of today’s best contemporary artists (Kara Walker, Ai Weiwei, and Cindy Sherman to name a few), with a focus on work by artists of African descent. After checking out the museum, take a stroll around Duke’s beautiful campus

Curator Trevor Schoonmaker is doing amazing things at Nasher for both the region’s art community and the surrounding Durham community. His 2010 exhibition 'The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl' was a favorite.
